My favorite part about these buttermilk dessert bars is that they’re so easy to make! If you’re looking for something sweet to bake up this holiday season, then look no further. These were the type of desserts my mother made when I was young, so it’s nice to see that these are still around today.

The ingredients needed for the buttermilk bars recipe

All you’ll need is 1 stick unsalted butter, softened, 1 cup granulated white sugar, 2 large eggs, 3/4 teaspoon baking powder,1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract,3/4 teaspoon salt,1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour,1 (15 ounces) can of buttermilk pie filling. You will also need a 9 x 13-inch baking pan greased with cooking spray or oil.

Make buttermilk dessert bars

To begin, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper, allowing excess paper to hang over the sides of the pan for easy removal after baking the bars. Set the prepared pan aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat together 1 stick of softened butter and granulated white sugar until creamy and smooth (about 2 minutes). Next, add in 2 large eggs; continue beating the mixture until light and fluffy (about 1 minute). Incorporate 3/4 teaspoon baking powder,1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract,3/4 teaspoon salt into the butter mixture, continue beating until well combined. Now mix in 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour into the batter, beating just until combined. Spread buttermilk pie filling over the top of the prepared batter and using a spatula or knife, gently swirl in remaining filling into the cookie dough.

Bake in a preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until golden brown around the edges and the center is set. Let cool completely before cutting with a sharp knife along the outside edge. Cut into desired size and number of bars and serve. I got 24 bars out of this recipe!
